• State the resolution–discuss the key terms that would need to be defined and discuss why these terms need to be defined
• Discuss the supplies for class
• Info sheets for debate
• Rules and regulations for debate were handed out
• Assign:  Try to find as much background info as possible on the topic to bring to class on Wed

Wed., Aug 25

• Pop quiz–know the resolution
• Handout textbooks
• Begin discussion of the topic and what the debaters have brought to class

What an awesome weekend!!!!!  The 2010 6A 2 speaker state champions are Anna Hamilton and Hannah Joens, srs.  Outstanding performances by other state teams include:  Matt Bevens and Addison Keegan-Harris, srs, 8th place; Kelly Murphy, sr., and Joel Billinger, jr., 8th place.  

The 4 speaker 6A State Debate team consisting of sophomores:  Anna Zimmerman/Crystal Montgomery, aff., and Matt DuPuis/William Ashley earned 4th place honors.  The team missed trophying by 2 ballots!  Way to go, Trojans!!!  Here comes forensics!!!

Thursday, Jan. 21–Depart for Wichita–Sponsors:  HH, Austin, Rimmey, Schumann

We are loading @ 3:00 pm on Thursday.  You need to bring extra $$$ for this trip–we are gone for 3 days.  We are staying at the Fairfield Inn, Webb Rd, Wichita, (316) 685-3777.  We will be at Goddard HS both days.

The 4 speaker assembly is scheduled for 4:30 pm on Saturday.  That means, you won’t get home until 8 pm.  The 2 speaker teams–finals are scheduled at 7:00 pm.  There maybe an early van and late van depending on how we do @ the 2 speaker.

Kudos!!!!!  The sophomores made it to 6A State to be held on Jan. 23-24, 2010, w/ an 8-2 w/l record to garner 2nd place honors.  The aff half consists of Anna Zimmerman and Crystal Montgomery; the neg half is William Ashley and Matt DuPuis.  The alternates to the regional team is Darwin May, sr., and Cooper Self, fr.  Way to go–the coaches are proud of you!

Kudos are in order for the outstanding performance of the Topeka High Debate Squad at the Flint Hills NFL Tournament this weekend at TWest HS.  National Qualifiers–Anna Hamilton, sr., and Hannah Joens, sr, are representing the Flint Hills at the National Tournament to be held in Kansas City in June!  4th Place Honors are awarded to Anna Zimmerman and Crystal Montgomery, sophs.  The team of Matt Bevens and Addison Keegan-Harris, srs., placed 5th!  The other NFL team is Joel Billinger, jr., and Kelly Murphy, sr.  The squad accumulated 22 rounds of competition to bring the sweepstakes trophy home to THS.

The weekend of Dec. 4-5 at the Lawrence HS tournament, Matt Bevens/Addison Keegan-Harris,srs., placed 4th in Varsity.  Anna Zimmerman/Crystal Montgomery, sophs, earned 4th place honors in open division.

 

This next weekend is the 4 speaker Regional Debate Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 19.  The 4 speaker team consists of Anna Zimmerman/Crystal Montgomery and William Ashley/Matt DuPuis.  The alternates will be Cooper Self and Darwin May.  Good Luck debaters!  HH
